2021 Toyota Corolla Cross Reveal – The new Corolla Cross compact SUV. For years, we have been reporting about the resurgence of crossovers and SUVs globally. That isn’t showing any signs of stopping now as Toyota introduces the Corolla Cross in Thailand. And yes, it’s based on the marque’s 54-year-old nameplate, the Toyota Corolla.
Toyota might have just only revealed the Yaris Cross light SUV, but it also has another new crossover in the works, and it’s likely to be called – you get guessed it – Corolla Cross. Toyota Corolla Cross SUV has a 4th Generation Hybrid Engine along with turning radius of 5.2 (Corolla 5.4). The Corolla Cross is a subcompact crossover SUV. It competes with other compact crossover SUVs such as Honda Vezel/BR-V, the Nissan Juke, and the Toyota C-HR. According to reports, Toyota Cross will be offered in Pakistan in three. Meet the Toyota Corolla Cross, the newest compact SUV in the Japanese carmaker’s stable. Revealed today in Thailand, it’s the latest vehicle to bear the iconic Corolla badge, but it’s a rather.
Of course, the 2021 Corolla Cross rides on the same Toyota New Global Architecture C (TGNA-C) platform that underpins the Corolla and C-HR.
Size-wise, the Corolla Cross is slotted in between the C-HR and the top-selling RAV4, complementing the former as the more functional crossover. It measures 4,460mm (175.5 inches) long, 1,825mm (71.9 inches) wide, and 1,620mm (63.8 inches) high. The C-HR and Corolla Cross share the same 2,640mm (103.9 inches) wheelbase length.
As for the powertrain, the Corolla Cross was launched in Thailand with two options. First is the 1.8-liter 2ZR-FBE gasoline engine with 140 horsepower (104 kilowatts) and 129 pound-feet (175 Newton-meters) of torque, sent to the front wheels via a CVT.
On the other hand, a hybrid powertrain option is available, with a 600-volt electric motor supplementing the setup with 72 hp (54 kW) and 120 lb-ft (163 Nm) of twists. The electric motor works in conjunction with a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE mill that makes 98 hp (73 kW) and 105 lb-ft (142 Nm) of pull. The hybrid Corolla Cross comes with Toyota’s e-CVT.
Styling-wise, the Corolla Cross carries the current distinct styling of its low-riding counterparts for the ASEAN market. It has a more subdued design when compared to the C-HR, with a gigantic grille up front to begin with. Of course, the Corolla Cross is showered with claddings wrapped around its undersides.
The Corolla Cross will be sold for the Thai market first this year but availability in other parts of the world will follow.

That didn't take long.
Toyota is expanding its SUV lineup, just like pretty much every automaker is doing at the moment. Instead of creating fresh models with new identities, the Japanese automaker is spinning off smaller SUVs with ties to its popular compact runabouts, the Yaris and Corolla. The Corolla Cross is the most recent addition, but could Toyota expand this spinoff trend to a small pickup truck?
That’s the question a new series of renderings from KDesign AG at Bēhance.net seeks to answer. The Corolla Cross debuted on July 8 in Thailand, where it will stay for at least the near future. It’s not a stretch to imagine the unibody crossover with a small bed at the back, though the rendering does add some length behind the rear wheels to make it happen. The design has something of a Subaru Baja vibe to it, likely because the Corolla's essence is at the core of this creation instead of a rough-and-tumble SUV. The roof bars are certainly a factor, too.

Would Toyota build such a vehicle? It’s extremely unlikely considering the manufacturer already has a strong seller in the small-ish truck segment, namely the Tacoma. Nearly 249,000 Tacos were sold in 2019, but a Corolla Cross would slot beneath that midsize truck. It’s a segment that at this time doesn’t really exist, though we’ve seen Ford testing a small sub-Ranger pickup that could reach the market in 2022. It’s possible a smaller, front-wheel-drive-based offering from Toyota could fill a niche, but it would be a small one.

It also ignores the reality that, while trucks are still as popular as ever in the United States, SUVs rule the world. It’s unclear at this time if Toyota will even bring its Corolla Cross to U.S. shores, where a truck version might stand a better chance of capturing sales. Still, it’s an interesting concept that one again raises eyebrows to the notion of a crossover pickup. Be sure to hit the source link below for more renderings of this creative endeavor.
